Grasshopper | Renovation

Recently, the child-care facility located in the Honnefer Strasse, Berlin was a run-down and unappealing building erected in 1980. Thus, extensive renovation measures had to be initiated in order to keep meeting the needs of around 160 children. In four stages of construction the building was refurbished to boost its energy efficiency as well as its appearance.

Considerable focus was put on the design of the facade. A horizontal stripe, created by variable coloured panels and combined with larch wood, makes the building facade vivid in its expression. Inside, the group rooms had to be redesigned; moreover, there had to be guaranteed sustainable energy supply as well as the installation of modern technology for the sanitary facilities.

Colour concept
The colour scheme has as its basis green shades referring to a grasshopper, which means to the name of the child-care centre. The interiors, e.g. the wardrobe and group rooms, reflect the green colour nuances used for the exterior facade, whilst the sanitary facilities are decorated in blue. Overall, the colour concept creates a pleasant atmosphere for children and staff.

Our services
Oki.architects have developed the concept, next they have supervised the implementation process. As architects we assume responsibility for the facade and interior design as well as for the execution planning.
